There are three methods for removing bad reviews on eBay. Firstly, you can ask the buyer to alter or remove their feedback. Another option would be to report the feedback directly to eBay and request its removal, which only works in certain circumstances. Lastly, you can rely on our eBay feedback removal service. On this page, we will explore each of the three processes.
Ask your customer to remove their negative feedback #
Sellers may ask buyers to revise or remove negative feedback by sending them a Revise Feedback request, but there is a catch: you can only ask for five revisions per every 1,000 units of feedback each year.
Feedback revisions are limited to ensure sellers are conscious of providing good customer service from the beginning. From a logical perspective, this makes sense. In reality, this limit is stringent on sellers – especially those targeted by disgruntled customers.
Ideally, you should only send Revise Feedback requests to buyers willing to revise their feedback. We suggest always contacting the buyer before sending a Revise Feedback request.
You should reach out to customers in cases where:
- You think the feedback is accidental due to, for example, a star rating being negative, but a comment being positive.
- You resolved the customer’s issue. For instance, you replaced a faulty product or reshipped a product that never arrived.
You should continuously monitor for negative feedback on your products/eBay profile and make revisions within thirty days of a customer leaving feedback. After 30 days, it will no longer be possible to appeal negative feedback. Sadly, there are no exceptions to this rule.
Request a feedback revision #
To request a revision, select the relevant feedback and include a comment summarizing why you are requesting the revision. Please note the revision request is only valid for ten days. If the customer does not revise it, the original feedback will remain, and no more revisions will be possible for that specific transaction.
eBay sellers must report any problem with a buyer within 90 days of the original transaction. You can use the seller reporting hub to do so. After ninety days, it is no longer possible to appeal feedback or report buyers.
What to do when you are unable to remove negative feedback on eBay #
There may be circumstances where you address all of the customers’ issues, and they still refuse to update or remove their negative feedback. In this case, your official options are limited unless you rely on our eBay negative feedback removal service.
Additional tips #
Get more positive feedback. Increasing positive feedback will help limit the negative impact of bad reviews. It goes without saying that the more positive feedback your account receives, the less impact each negative review will have on your reputation.
Pro tip: Automated feedback software can help you target happy customers while sending out feedback requests with branded, personal messages.
Acknowledge your mistakes #
Respond to every single negative feedback. If you can’t remove negative eBay reviews, respond to them professionally and politely. Acknowledge your mistakes and state what steps you’ve taken to ensure they won’t happen again. This approach can fare well with new potential customers.
According to a customer survey among consumers who read reviews, 97% of them also read a business’ response to reviews. So this is your chance to alleviate the concerns of prospective customers. Where it can not be removed or improved, you should always respond to negative eBay reviews when possible.
Always contact unsatisfied clients directly. Even if you’re out of eBay revision requests, it’s still worth contacting customers about their purchases. Their feedback may no longer be revised, but they can still leave a follow-up comment to their original review. If the statement is positive, it can sway future buyers into purchasing your products.
Address the issue(s) that lead to negative feedback. Different eBay sellers have other fears. However, one thing all sellers have in common is dreading negative feedback from buyers. Addressing issues instead of hiding them may help you improve your business and build better brand loyalty and sales for the future.
Provide superior customer service. eBay encourages buyers to contact sellers if they have a problem with a purchase before leaving negative feedback. If the buyer follows eBay’s suggestion and you seize the occasion, you can likely resolve the issue before it worsens.
Surprise and delight #
When possible, use packaging to surprise and delight your customers. Surprise and delight are great ways to build customer loyalty and positive reviews. Sellers can use their packaging, email or post-purchase communication to achieve this goal.
To achieve surprise and delight, you may add something extra to the package, such as some stickers, a personalized message or a nice box that your customer can reuse in the future. Not only will this cause customers to leave positive reviews, but it can also save you from negative feedback if things go south.
Get creative and take good care of your customers. Your actions and efforts will be rewarded in many ways.
